Instead of creating a large team, Kona is a smaller sized team specializing in high-end, boutique, custom projects that require unique expertise, specialty tools, & meticulous processes that go above what an ordinary painting company can deliver.

An Unconventional Painting Journey
Max discovered painting at 16, working for a larger company during his summers. Quickly learning the trade, he noticed a lack of professionalism in the industry, with unskilled labor from big franchises being common and skilled but overloaded solo painters never answering their phones. Each option had its strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately leaving clients with limited choices.
In 2018, Max founded Kona with a vision to bring together the best painters: an expert team, large enough for big projects but small enough to maintain a flat, self-managed structure. His goal was to deliver top-tier, professional results for projects that required nothing less.
While studying at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, Max launched Kona and continued to build his expertise. In 2021, he earned his real estate license & became a Realtor, further expanding his knowledge. With 10 years of experience, Max has become a trusted asset for homebuilders, remodelers, designers, and Realtors.
In Kona’s early days, Max took on every challenging project that others avoided—complex jobs with tight deadlines or no clear solution.
